Move an iTunes library to Rekordbox
iTunes and Apple Music downloads use M4A, which doesn't play nice with Rekordbox or Pioneer CDJs. Convert to AIFF for full DJ software compatibility.

Why move an itunes library to rekordbox?
If you've purchased music through iTunes or downloaded from Apple Music, your files are in M4A format. While Rekordbox can technically import M4A, performance on CDJs is inconsistent — older models don't support it at all, and even newer ones can have slower load times. AIFF is Pioneer's preferred lossless format and gives you a format that's native to the Pioneer ecosystem.
How to move an itunes library to rekordbox
- 1Locate your M4A files in your iTunes/Music library folder
- 2Drop files onto the converter
- 3Select AIFF as the output format
- 4Download your converted files
- 5Import into Rekordbox and analyze as usual
Tips
- M4A is the standard extension for iTunes and Apple Music downloads
- AIFF files will be larger than M4A since they're uncompressed
- Convert before importing into Rekordbox to avoid re-analyzing later
- If storage is a concern, WAV and AIFF are the same size — pick based on your gear's preference
Frequently asked questions
- How do I find my M4A files?
- In Apple Music/iTunes, go to Preferences → Files → look for the Media folder location. Your audio files will have the .m4a extension. You can also right-click a track → Show in Finder.
- Can CDJ-3000 play M4A?
- CDJ-3000 has some M4A support, but many clubs still have CDJ-2000NXS2 or older, which don't. Converting to AIFF guarantees compatibility everywhere.
