Frequently asked questions

Does converting between formats lose quality?
Converting between lossless formats (WAV, AIFF, FLAC) is completely lossless — no quality is lost. Converting to lossy formats (MP3, M4A, OGG, OPUS) discards some data to reduce file size. Converting from lossy to lossless won't restore the lost quality — it just wraps the existing audio in a lossless container.
What bitrate should I use for MP3?
320 kbps is the default and sounds indistinguishable from lossless on most systems. 192 kbps is a good middle ground if you need smaller files. 128 kbps is fine for voice recordings or previews but not recommended for music.
What's the maximum file size?
The free tier supports files up to 30MB. Paid plans support up to 500MB (Hobbyist) and 2GB (Pro). Conversions time out after 60 seconds, which is enough for most audio files.
What happens to my files?
Your uploaded file is deleted immediately after conversion. The converted file is available for download, then automatically deleted. Nothing is stored permanently.
Why would I convert WAV to AIFF?
DJ software like Rekordbox and Serato handle AIFF metadata (BPM, key, cue points) more reliably than WAV. If your tags keep disappearing or getting mangled, converting to AIFF before importing usually fixes it.
Is this actually free?
Yes. Converting to MP3 is completely free — up to 30MB per file. Paid plans unlock all output formats, larger files, and batch conversion.
Do you support batch conversion?
Yes. Paid plans support converting multiple files at once — up to 5 files on Hobbyist and 25 on Pro.
Can I convert video files to audio?
Not yet — we only support audio-to-audio conversion. Extracting audio from video is on the roadmap.
